Outline what your chosen sport is, and why you chose it.
The sport I have chosen to research for this assessment is basketball. I have chosen Basketball because I am passionate about it, I am also interested to see the how it has developed over time and how much the technology has changed since it was first played back in 1891. Basketball is a team sport, it is a sport played with two teams filled with 5 players of each team on a rectangular court. The aim of the game is to shoot the ball through a hoop elevated on a backboard 3 meters high on each end of the court. Basketball is one of the most popular and most viewed sports around the world. It is played at Olympic level and can be played by anyone at any age. Some of the rules that are used most in basketball are fouls, travelling and double dribble. Fouls can be called if any hitting, pushing, slapping or holding is seen by the referee. Walking/travelling, carrying and double dribbling is counted as a violations and will result in the opposite team getting the ball.
Basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in 1891, it was being played with a peach basket and a soccer ball. The peach baskets were used until 1906 when they were finally replaced by metal hoops with backboards. After this, a slight change was made so that the basketball could actually pass through the hoop. The first balls made specifically for basketball were brown, and it was only in the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle was searching for a ball that would be more visible to players and spectators alike, introduced the orange ball that is now in common use with every single basketball game.
