How does the technology work?
Replay systems are often used in Basketball to make sure a shot was released before the final buzzer. This XOS HD replay system is a form of technology for basketball that enables basketball officials to review game footage in high quality. The XOS high definition Replay System for Basketball only needs a laptop and one person to operate.
Where was the technology discovered/invented?
Replay systems first started being used in the NBA in the 2002-03 season. In Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, Los Angeles Lakers forward Samaki Walker made a three-point field goal from the half court at the end of the second quarter. However, the replay showed that Walker's shot was late and that the ball was still in his hand when the clock expired. The use of instant replay was instituted afterward.
Does the technology significantly help improve the sport in terms of performance, safety etc. Or is it just a fad?
Replay Systems are defiantly an improvement to basketball. It makes it easier for the referees and other officials before making a final decision which makes the basketball game a lot more accurate. It can also help the coaches and players, the players can see on what they should improve on and where they made mistakes.
Has the technology spread to other parts of the world through sport?
Yes, instant replay isn't just only used for basketball, it is shown all around the world. Alot of other sports use instant replay just like basketball to improve on their performance and make refereeing a lot more accurate. It is used for ice hockey, rugby league, baseball, motor sports, cricket, rugby union and a lot more sports. These sports are also shown worldwide which proves that instant replay is used throughout the whole world, not just Australia.
Give 1 example of when the technology is used?
Instant replay (replay systems) is used when the referee is unsure of what has happened in the game. For instance, a player could of shot the ball just before the buzzer and the officials are unsure if it was out of his hands just before the buzzer.
Give 1 example of groups that have access to the technology (based on affordability, availability, etc.)?
Instant replay is available to NBA players as they are at a high level of competition and there games are alot more intense as lower levels.
